The purpose of the game is to place the maximum number of pieces on the board.

However, that isn’t so easy, because pieces of the same colour can only touch each other at the corners, never along their sides.  This makes the whole game more complicated.

As each new piece is placed on the board, the rest of the game changes.  By using tactics to put down your pieces, you can extend your territory and block your opponents – this ensures the game remains lively from beginning to end.
